This past year, I was a part of a lot of incredible things, from writing and creating an almost 3 hour long live radio broadcast of the UConn Undergraduate Student Government Presidential Debate; a first in UConn history to co-creating a morning news show at UCTV, the campus television station. Those are just 2 of the highlights of an incredibly productive - and fun - semester. On to the new stuff:
I will be starting my summer at UConn's Avery Point campus with a little over a dozen UConn students for a 3 week study abroad program on Lake Erie. This trip will take us on the US Brig Niagara, a warship used by The American Navy during The War of 1812 on The Great Lakes. It's an incredible opportunity to live and learn the lifestyle sailors experience in one of the most important conflicts in American History. A short history lesson: The War of 1812 was America's second war for independence. At the time, America was vulnerable politically and militarily and the British sought to take advantage of that. Okay, back to the present. We will train for two days at Mystic Seaport to go over some of the general mechanics of rigging a square sail, naval history, and the like. I won't have access to a computer for the next 3 weeks, so I'll just update my entire experience when I have a week off after it's all done.
The rest of my summer will be spent in New York City with NBC...yes the NBC. I will be working in The Local Integrated Media Unit. It's our job to push Internet-based content to the 10 network-owned NBC franchises nation-wide. The Olympics this summer also add an extra "strain" to the job, apparently my Unit has additional responsibilities during the global competition, so I'll be able to do some more awesome stuff...not sure on specifics yet, but I'll absolutely keep this site updated.
I'm glad I've found a reason to blog again, I missed it plenty and I'm excited to get back into it. I've done so much, and even if it's just for me, I'm glad I have the opportunity here to put it all down. London was a great chapter in my life, but the next chapter, the next journey, starts right now... and I can't wait. I'll leave you with this quote:
