Gallery 11

I have been up to a lot over the past 3 days. I've been down to the tidal basin to see some of the nations most prestigious memorials, and to a handful of Smithsonian Museums. I'll see what details I can provide below
Friday, a group of us went to the Museum of Natural History; something I thought would be similar to what I saw in New York this past summer. It wasn't; the museum in DC was a lot larger, but that doesn't mean better. This isn't an effort though for me to express my opinion of the museum though, what's important is that I had a lot of fun and it was a great way to start off my museum sight-seeing.

In all, I think we were there for 3 something hours. Saturday though was a completely different story, Saturday I got a very early start. I went to three museums; the first was the Air and Space Museum:

First plane to break the sound barrier

first private plane to go into space

The Tube!!!

Favorite mission patch!

U.S. airspace right before the World Trade Center was struck
U.S. airspace right after the FAA shut down all commercial flights

This has by far been my favorite museum, absolutely loved it. Next, we hit up the National Museum of American History...which is really the Museum of American awesomeness...
First Apple computer....

USS Philadelphia..a gun boat sunk by the British during the Revolution

Campaign patches in foreign languages

Fantastic exhibit

Chairs used at the Confederate surrender

a wall of tv's

Finally, after my camera ran out of batteries so I had to use my phone, we stopped into the National Gallery of Art, it was pretty nice:

I like this picture frame

Reproduction of David

Where the David is...and I thought it would make a good name..

commemoration to the Massachusetts 54th

Sunday, I went for a walk early and came across the Inaugural Rehearsal:

I wish I could offer some more insight on this, I really wasn't getting any information aside from it was as close as we were gonna get to a complete rehearsal  before the inaguration. Later that day, I went to some of the memorials:
WWII Memorial

Each star represents 100 American servicemen killed in action

Vietnam Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

Look at that fog

Korean War memorial

Martin Luther King Jr. memorial

Jefferson Monument

It has been a heck of a weekend, a lot of fun. The best is yet to come though, and I can't wait to see what is in store. I start tomorrow morning at 9am, it'll be something special.

"I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a New Deal for the American people."
~Franklin D. Roosevelt announcing the New Deal after his inauguration.

I think that quote is appropriate when you consider how hungry people are for the future, a better future, when people believe the next 4 years will be better than their last 4 years.

Stay Tuned....
